Female found floating in bay at North Spit

The body of a female was found floating in the bay near the Roseburg Lumber Dock on the North Spit yesterday afternoon. An investigation identified the body as that of 23 year old Cristina Francis of Coos Bay. Law Enforcement agencies were involved in a pursuit of a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Coos Bay that began just out of the Eastside District of Coos Bay, up Coos River Hwy. and north over Eastbay Road. The pursuit ended in the vehicle crashing and the female driver fleeing from police. Police tracked the driver to the edge of the bay and belive she attempted to flee police by swimming out into the bay. It is believed that Cristina Francis was that female suspect. The cause of death is still under investigation by the Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office.
