Junction City Man Dies In Head On Collision


Oregon State Police continue their investigation into the cause of yesterday afternoon’s two-vehicle fatal traffic crash south of Junction City. According to OSP, a Volkswagen driven by 60-year-old Jack Ray Franks from Junction City man was northbound on Highway 99 south of Meadow View Road when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound Buick. The Volkswagen came to rest in the right southbound lane. The Buick came to rest in the ditch along the northbound lanes. Franks was pronounced dead at the scene. The Buick’s driver, 71-year-old Stephen W. McDermott, from Eugene, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend with minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing seats. Highway 99 was closed about three hours with a detour around the crash scene.
