OSP Traffic Stop Leads To Heroin Seizure


A traffic stop by Oregon State Police on Interstate 5 last week has led to drug charges for two men after troopers discovered drugs concealed in a vehicle. On February 10th, OSP stopped a vehicle that was displaying Washington license plates northbound on Interstate 5 south of Ashland for a traffic violation. The vehicle contained three occupants: driver 25-year-old Francisco Javier Velasquez, from El Monte, California and passenger 30-year-old Uziel Torres, from Washington. The third occupant was a 23-year old female from California. Police investigation led to the seizure of about 7 pounds of heroin inside a box in the vehicle. Estimated value of the heroin is $300,000. Velasquez and Torres are facing charges for Unlawful Possession and Distribution of a Controlled Substance-Heroin.  The female passenger was not arrested.
