Bandon’s 66th Cranberry Festival is September 7th–9th. From Roseburg, The Umpqua Valley Bluegrass Band will play from 2 – 5pm on Sunday near the Old-Town & Marina. The band plays a traditional style of driving bluegrass with banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass & vocals. Members are Liz Crain, Gene Hodson, Scott McAdoo, Joe Ross & Francis Stephenson. The members have many years of experience playing bluegrass, classic country, western swing and other styles of music. The group has been together for two years, forming in 2010 when they saw a classified ad that said “Bluegrass Band Needed for Pig Roast BBQ.” The Umpqua Valley Bluegrass Band now frequently plays their foot-stompin’ and fun-filled family music throughout the greater southern Oregon region. Bandon’s Cranberry Festival started in 1946 to showcase the local cranberry industry. Local products include juice, fresh & dried berries, wine, candies, etc. The parade is held Saturday morning with participants from as far away as Humboldt County. After the parade, enjoy the many vendors and a coronation, cranberry eating contests, photography competition, music, food, local businesses, petting zoo, quilt show, VFW craft/bake sale, Tigers Football & Lions Cranberry Run.
