OSP Releases Name; Two People Dead In Traffic Crash East Of Elkton
Oregon State Police have released the names of the two people killed in a traffic crash that occurred on Sunday morning on Highway 138 about 8 miles east of Elkton. According to OSP, a Ford Probe driven by 27-year-old Danny D. Harris, from Tennessee, was westbound on Highway 138 entering a right hand curve after passing three cars when it failed to negotiate the curve and began traveling in the eastbound lane. An eastbound Chevy pickup driven by 59-year-old Paul Wellington, from Redding, California, was unable to avoid a head-on crash. Paul Wellington and his passenger, 59-year-old Terri Wellington, were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg with non-life threatening injuries. Harris, and the Ford’s other occupant, were pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger has been identified as 24-year-old Athena N. Byrd, also from Tennessee. OSP was assisted by other agencies and the section of highway was closed for over two hours.
