Crab Price Negotiations Delayed

The state-supervised price negotiations between the five Dungeness crab marketing associations in Oregon and coastal seafood processors have been temporarily delayed.

The Department of Agricultural, which convenes the annual bargaining process, has announced the parties involved in the price negotiation discussions agreed to postpone further talks until additional pre-season meat fill tests are finished and those results are analyzed by fishery managers in Oregon, California and Washington.

The opening date for the 2012~2013 Dungeness crab season has already been postponed from the customary December 1st start. The new date will be determined after a scheduled conference call occurs between fish and wildlife officials. The Oregon Department of Agriculture plans to resume the price negotiation in Newport.
