Fire Destroys Airport Hangar–Updated

K-DOCK 92.9

A hangar at the North Bend Airport caught fire last night as crews from all over Coos County were called in to assist with the massive blaze. Crews battled through the night with 50 mile per hour winds fanning the flames of the aged structure. Most people will remember crossing the McCullough bridge and seeing 10 foot high white letters saying North Bend painted on the front of a huge hangar at the airport. That is the structure that was completely destroyed in the fire. K-Dock has learned that the hangar was being demolished and the demolition company doing the work lost some major equipment in the fire. Steve Schneiderman, at Marshfield Bargain house, was contracted to haul scrap away from the demolition, also lost a trailer in the fire. Police maintained a large perimeter for the safety of onlookers. There is no cause of the fire reported at this time. More information as it becomes available from the North Bend Fire Department.
