Victims Names Released From Fatal Traffic Crash

Two women died on Sunday when the van they were traveling in was struck by a flatbed trailer along Highway 101 about two miles north of Waldport.

According to Oregon State Police a Dodge Ram pickup pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with an off-road vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Spencer K. Foley from Toledo, was southbound on Highway 101 when the trailer began to fishtail side to side. The trailer disengaged from the pickup and entered the northbound lane where it collided into the driver side of a northbound van occupied by two women. Upon impact, the off-road vehicle came off the trailer and struck the van. The two adult women in the van were pronounced dead at the scene and identified as driver 69-year-old Suzanne Carol Aiken and her mother/passenger 94-year-old Loise A. Raether, both from Yachats.

Spencer Foley, passenger 23-year-old Bobbi J. Foley, and their 2-year- old son were not injured. The pickup was not struck during the collision between the trailer and van. All occupants were using seat belts and the van’s airbags deployed.

OSP was assisted by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, Lincoln County Medical Examiner, Central Coast Fire & Rescue, Seal Rock Fire & Rescue, ODOT, and PacWest Ambulance. The highway was blocked for four hours during the investigation.
