North Bend Man Dies In Weekend Traffic Crash

Oregon State Police continue their investigation into the cause of Sunday morning’s single vehicle fatal crash along Highway 101 in Lakeside that resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man and injuries to his wife. According to OSP reports, a pickup driven by 60-year-old Jon Lorick Copsey, from North Bend, was traveling southbound on Highway 101 when the pickup traveled off the southbound shoulder into brush and collided head-on with a large tree.

Copsey was pronounced dead at the scene. His 60-year-old wife and passenger, Beatrice E. Copsey, was taken to Bay Area Hospital where she was treated and released for minor injuries. Both were using seat belts and the vehicle’s airbags deployed. OSP troopers from Coos Bay are continuing the investigation. OSP was assisted at the scene by the Lakeside Fire Department, ODOT, and the Coos County Medical Examiner. The highway was closed and detour in place.
