National Weather ServiceNWS SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT: A winter storm will arrive Friday with impacts lasting into Saturday. High surf is expected at the coast… strong winds will affect much of the forecast area… and moderate to heavy snowfall will affect the mountains and the east side. Additionally… there is the potential for low elevation snowfall.

At the coast… heavy surf will develop Friday night… peak Saturday… then subside Saturday night. Breaker heights will be 20 to 25 feet with the heaviest surf on northwest facing beaches. There will likely be sneaker waves that… though infrequent… break much farther up the beaches than other waves. Strong south winds to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph will develop Friday afternoon ahead of a cold front. Though wind speeds will not be extremely high… they will be significantly stronger than those associated with recent storms. Winds will diminish Friday evening as the front moves inland.
