Coos Bay boy drowns in Empire Lakes

A LAKESIDE DIVE TEAM, FIRE AND POLICE SEARCH THE LAKE

At about 3:22 PM this afternoon Coos Bay 911 received a call of a possible drowning at Empire Lakes John Topits Park. According to Coos Bay Police Chief Stan Gibson, Police, Fire and Bay Cities Ambulance responded to the scene where they were told that an 8 year-old boy had been underwater for 5 to 7 minutes. Coos Bay and North Bend Police personnel along with three people from the shore searched the water. Firefighters also launched a boat and the Coast Guard did a flyover to help assist with the search. At 3:43 PM a Dive Team from Lakeside Fire Department was called in to assist with the search. At 6:55 PM divers recovered the body of Kristian Croy of Coos Bay.
