Police Searching for Coos Bay IED Suspect
While Coos Bay Police officers were investigating a report of domestic violence yesterday afternoon, a cache of firearms, ammunition, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were located at 148 Hull Street in Coos Bay. The home was immediately evacuated and access to Hull Street was restricted. Officers also notified the residents in the neighboring homes of the potential threat suggesting they also evacuate their homes until the IEDs could be rendered safe. Officers applied for and were granted a warrant to search the involved property. During the search of the residence, officers located seven IEDs, evidence related to the manufacturing of explosive devices, firearms, and ammunition. The IEDs were rendered safe on scene by the Oregon State Police Explosives Unit.
The suspect in this case has not yet been located. He is identified as Jay Kenneth Yarbrough (38) of Coos Bay. Yarbrough is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 6’00” tall, weighing approximately 175 lbs., with long dark brown hair. Yarbrough has been described as untrusting of government and is aware law enforcement is searching for him.
The Coos Bay Police Department has probable cause for Yarbrough’s arrest for Assault IV – Domestic (felony), Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Reckless Endangering, Possession of a Destructive Device, Unlawful Manufacturing of a Destructive Device, and Possession of a Hoax Destructive Device, Unlawful Possession of Short-Barreled Firearms, and Possession of a Controlled Substance II (methamphetamine).
