Powers man arrested for Post Office disturbance

Coos County Sheriff Deputy Narrative: On 06/07/13 at approximately 11:11 A.M. a Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy was detailed to respond to the Powers Post Office, in Powers Oregon to a report of a disturbance in progress involving a disorderly subject in the Post Office. The report to the Coos County 911 Center was that the Postal Clerk and other postal customers had been threatened by an intoxicated man that came into the Post Office. It was also reported that the Postal Clerk had called the Powers Police Department, speaking with the Powers Police Chief directly, and was told that he would not respond and to just send the man home. The clerk then called 911 and requested the Sheriff’s Office respond.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call from the Coquille area and after approximately 40 minutes the first deputy arrived on scene.

After an investigation Charles R. Murphy, 46 yoa of Powers, was arrested on the charges of Burglary II, Menacing and Disorderly Conduct. It was learned that Mr. Murphy had come into the Post Office intoxicated and threatened the postal clerk and a postal customer who had a small infant child with them.

The clerk ordered Mr. Murphy to leave numerous times but refused. Mr. Murphy physically confronted both the female postal clerk and the female customer who had the infant child, making threats to kill them and yelling obscenities at them

It was also reported, at one point Mr. Murphy threatened some other children that were passing the Post Office. When the deputy arrived, Mr. Murphy was outside the Post Office being held up against a car that was parked in front of the Post Office by another male subject.

The deputy placed Mr. Murphy under arrest for Burglary II, Menacing and Disorderly Conduct. He was transported to the Coos County Jail where he is being held on bail. Mr. Murphy’s blood alcohol reading at the jail was .33 %
