EDWARD LAWRENCE NELSON

On Saturday June 15, 2013, Coos County 911 received a report that a house was on fire at 52535 Big Creek Road. When first responders arrived they discovered an adult female body. The investigation revealed that the woman died of homicidal violence.

While responding to the scene police discovered that the residence and outbuilding next door at 52457 Big Creek Road was also on fire. Police have found human remains at that location and believe two occupants were in the home that was destroyed.

Both fires have been deemed suspicious in nature and may have been intentionally set.

The investigation at the scene and reports by eyewitnesses immediately identified a suspect. 65 year-old Edward Lawrence Nelson was stopped by police on Highway 42 in Douglas County. Nelson and the other occupant in the vehicle were taken into custody.

Nelson is being held in the Coos County Jail on three counts of Aggravated Murder and three counts of Arson in the First Degree.

Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Fraiser says he will file the charges on Monday morning.

The names of the three victims are being withheld until notification of next of kin.
