Update: Crews Suppressing Fire North Of Gardiner

The Coos Forest Protective Association is suppressing a 42-acre fire burning in logging slash approximately 3 miles north of Gardiner on the west side of Highway 101. The fire was reported around 1:30pm on Sunday, June 30th. Upon arrival at the fire, it was discovered the fire had spread to an adjacent logging operation. CFPA crews, assisted by operator and landowner resources, 2-inmate crews from Shutter Creek Correctional Institution, Reedsport Fire, Gardiner RFD, Winchester Bay RFD and U.S. Forest Service, worked throughout the night. Douglas Forest Protective Association assisted with aerial observations. The fire was declared contained at 7am this morning, July 1st.

Coos Forest Protective Association overhead and engine/water tender support, three 20-person hand crews, Oregon Department of Forestry and operator resources will be on the fire site, strengthening lines and mopping up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
