Firefighters Urge Extreme Caution With Fireworks

Independence Day, unfortunately, is one of the busiest days of the year for firefighters. According to the National Fire Protection Association, more fires are reported on the 4th of July than any other day of the year–and two out of five are related to fireworks.

The Coos Bay Professional Firefighters Association urges the public to use extreme caution around fireworks. Coos Bay Public display pyrotechnician operator, Randy Miles, says “Consumer fireworks are dangerous and the risks to personal safety are significant. Certain fireworks are legal in Oregon. Legal or not, if you decide to set off your own display, precautions need to be taken. While they are pretty, fireworks can be very dangerous.”
