Reedsport Selects Next Police Chief

Reedsport’s City Manager Jonathan Wright has announced the conditional appointment of Duane Arthur Wisehart as Police Chief for the city of Reedsport. Wisehart currently works for the city of Hemet Police Department, in California.

The search for a new Police Chief began in August 2013 after the sudden death of Chief Mark Fandrey. The city began this process looking for a strong leader, like Chief Fandrey, who has a high level of integrity, team oriented, fiscally responsible, and community minded. “It was no easy task finding someone to fill Fandrey’s shoes,” said Wright. “He had many great qualities and had begun some very positive programmatic changes within the Department.” “It was important for me to find someone who has the knowledge and experience to pick up where Fandrey left off.”

Much like the rest of the nation, Hemet has suffered economically; however, while his department endured cutbacks, Wisehart has steadily advanced acquiring greater responsibility and proving himself capable of the highest echelons of management. Wisehart cites a rise in crime and the desire to raise his family, which consist of his wife and two young children, in a small town away from the influences of southern California as the basis for his desire to be in Reedsport. In a conversation earlier this week, Wisehart stated that, his family is completely on board with the transition and are excited about the move.

Wisehart possesses a B.S. in Workforce Education from Southern Illinois University and has received specialized training in: Homicide Investigations, Budging for Police Departments, Police Management and Command, Internal Affairs, S.W.A.T. and Traffic Investigations. He is also a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and is an FBI Firearms Instructor. Wisehart’s personal activities include serving on the Board of the Ramona Humane Society, Youth Sports Coach for boys baseball and girls softball and volunteering at the Central County United Way.
Wisehart is estimated to start with Reedsport in February pending a background investigation. He plans to travel here alone but will soon be joined by his family who will stay behind long enough to allow their children to finish out the school year in Hemet.
