Douglas County Attempted Murder Investigation
On January 29, 2014, at about 1650 hours, Douglas County Emergency Communications received a 911 call of a shooting that had just occurred in the 400 block of Mont Street, Canyonville. The caller stated the victim, a 23 year old male, had been shot while sitting in his parked vehicle. The caller advised the suspect had left in a red Honda Civic.
Several deputies arrived a short time later and and found the victim conscious and breathing with an injury to his face. The victims vehicle appeared to have three gunshot holes in it. Deputies and other law enforcement officers were unable to locate the suspect or his vehicle. The victim and suspect are known to each other. Sheriffs Detectives responded to the scene and the victim was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his face.
The victim and other witnesses identified the suspect as David A. Baumgaertel, age 39. David Baumgaertel is described as a white male, 5’11, 205 lbs, balding or shaved head, with large tattoos on his forehead and neck. He has a tear drop tattoo next to his right eye. David Baumgaertel was last known to reside in the Myrtle Creek area, but until recently he has spent most of his life in California.
David Baumgaertel was last seen driving a red 2001 Honda Civic, with Oregon license plates, 533FAE. The vehicle was last known to have a black colored hood with a skull painted on it.
David Baumgaertel is wanted by this agency for Attempted Murder charges. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of David Baumgaertel is asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.
