K-DOCK 92.9

The Southwest Oregon Chapter of the Professional Engineers of Oregon invite all active and retired engineers, and those who have an interest in engineering in the bay area, to the next meeting of the Professional Engineers of Oregon. The meeting will be held at the Saw Blade Room of the Mill Casino in North Bend, on Wednesday, April 16th. Social time begins at 6pm followed by dinner and the scheduled presenter. No-host dinner is available from the menu, but seating is limited. Call Ron Hoffine at 541-267-8413 to inquire about reservations.

The speaker will be Eric Oberbeck, an Oregon Certified Engineering Geologist and Oregon Registered Geologist. Eric is a Senior Principal Engineering Geologist with Cascadia Geoservices, Inc. and works extensively in southern Oregon including Coos and Curry Counties. Eric will present his work on the proposed Pacific Gales Golf Course near Port Orford.

Pacific Gales Golf Course is a proposed 18 hole, links style golf course which will be on the Oregon coast approximately 2 miles north of Port Orford. The subject property is approximately 344 acres of which a portion is within the Coastal Shoreland Boundary south of Elk River.

As part of Curry County’s permitting process, Cascadia Geoservices was hired to conduct a site specific geologic hazard assessment of the subject property. This included, in part, compiling a reconnaissance map of the property and a review of historical aerial photographs. In addition, Cascadia Geoservices evaluated changes in natural storm water runoff patterns that could result from development activity.

Cascadia Geoservices is a locally owned and operated Pacific Northwest-based geological, geotechnical and geoenvironmental consulting firm with regional offices in Oregon and Washington. They have provided consulting services to Oregon and Washington clients since 1983.
