Search on for Missing North Bend Man

Robert Palmer

UPDATE

A missing North Bend man has been located and is alive and safe. On August 18th, Search and Rescue members with the help of 2 K-9 teams located 56-year-old Robert Peter Palmer in the area of Elk Point Road, off of Winchester Road, off of Highway 101. Mr. Palmer was alive but weak and unable to move on his own. Members from Millington Fire, Green Acres SAR, Coos Forest Patrol and a rescue swimmer from the Coast Guard worked to pack Palmer nearly 2 miles to the road, to an awaiting ambulance. Palmer was taken to Bay Area Hospital.

The search stemmed from an incident on the evening of August 17th, when Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Winchester Trails, south of Coos Bay, to the report of a lost mushroom picker. Deputies met with 55-year-old David A. Palmer of North Bend who was reporting that his brother, Robert Peter Palmer was lost in the area of Winchester Trails. It was reported that the two were mushroom picking in the area and Robert, who suffers from diabetes and is insulin dependent, had become too weak to walk out.

Both the victim, Robert Palmer and his brother David Palmer, are expected to be cited for Unlawful Harvesting of Minor Forest Products, an unclassified misdemeanor.
