Coos Bay Rail Link Wins Jake Award
The Coos Bay Rail Link has won an award for operating safely. The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association has honored the Coos Bay Rail Link with the Jake Award “for achieving a perfect safety record with no reportable injuries.”
This is the second year in a row the award has been bestowed on the CBR. The association recognizes safety achievements in the industry for railroads that achieved injury-free operations in 2012 that is less than or equal to the industry average compiled by the Federal Railroad Administration. Last year, the CBR won the award for injury-free start-up operations. The twelve employees operate weekly freight train service, connecting the region’s manufacturer’s to the North American freight rail system through Class 1 connections at Eugene. Currently, the Coos Bay rail line is undergoing $31 million in repairs and upgrades.
