Thousands of LED Lights Make New Year’s Eve Bright
There are 300,000 lights are up on display to enjoy at Shore Acres State Park. Light sculptures like pelicans, puffins, jellyfish, cranes, a life-size leaping Orca whale and spouting gray whale, tulips, roses, dahlias, dungeness crabs, sea horses, playful sea lions and many more—and most are LED lights displays.
It has been a holiday tradition since 1987 when the Friends of Shore Acres decided to “string a few lights” with about 6,000 miniature lights in that first season, along with one Christmas tree, and the decorated garden house. Now, 30 large landscape lights, 26 large holiday trees, dozens of lighted sculptures, entertainment in the pavilion, draw 50,000 visitors or more each season. Inside the garden house, scrolls of names are a tribute to business supporters and the more than 1,500 volunteers who make it happen.
