A Big FEAST Event Comes To OCCI

F.E.A.S.T. is an acronym for Food-Education-Agriculture-Solutions-Together. Anyone who is interested in food issues on the southern Oregon coast should consider attending. It will be a 5 1/2 hour event starting at 9:30am, held at the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on April 20th. Featured on the lunch menu will be made with all local foods including Tenmile Lake watercress and OCCI kale salad, Charleston fresh catch pink shrimp, grilled local asparagus and sauce louis. Plus Oregon native berry cobbler ala mode.

Lunch provided and childcare available upon request. Pre-registration required with South Coast Development Council. Call 541-266-9753 or email (scdc@scdcinc.org) or online at http://cooscountyfeast.eventbrite.com

The concept of the F.E.A.S.T. event is to bring together everyone involved in agriculture from growers to packaging to retail. They are attempting to create a safe environment where every level of involvement can have the opportunity to share what they see as assets, the opportunities available, and then the challenges needed to overcome to use and or access those assets and opportunities. Finally, how do we overcome those challenges and become more successful together. We have asked for specific folks in our community to speak to particular areas of interest, including agriculture, anti-hunger, fisheries, gardening, health & nutrition, and retail. This is just the first meeting of a long process, this fall we will have a RARE (Resource Assistance for Rural Environment) worker to assist with gathering information from our community to help determine the best way to implement a plan of action.
