Bay Area Teen Idol Elimination Round Friday!

(North Bend) – Whitney Houston, Etta James and Elvis are a few of the artists who will be featured at this week’s Bay Area Teen Idol. The program is presented to the community at a low cost and is the format where Coos County Youth between the ages of 13 and 18 compete vocally in what has been dubbed Coos County’s Premiere Vocal Competition.

The contestants have a choice of performing something from the K-DOCK Radio playlist or a piece from some of America’s music icons. After looking at the song selection, organizer Stephanie Kilmer noted that many of the iconic artists are on the K-DOCK Playlist.

Each week contestants from Coos County perform music selections that are judged by a panel of local experienced stage and industry musicians. At the end of the night, those with the lowest scores are eliminated. All 13 contestants will perform this week after none were eliminated at the season opener last week. Even if eliminated, contestants are invited back to perform in group song selections.

Kilmer says the program is provided as a service to the community. It is a low cost night of entertainment that’s fun for the young and young at heart. Since this week’s contest kicks off July Jubilee events, North Bend Mayor Rick Wetherall will cut the city’s birthday cake and the Jubilee Princesses will serve it to all in attendance at intermission.

Bay Area Teen Idol is a drug, alcohol and tobacco free event. Contestants sign a pledge to remain drug free. The event is in its 9th season and takes place at 7:00 pm at the North Bend Community Center on Friday, July 20th. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Admission is only $3.00.
