CERT Receives Valuable Training

The Coos Bay-North Bend Rotary Club presented the Community Emergency Response Team also known as CERT with a Live Fire Simulator this week. The equipment trains people how to properly use a Fire Extinguisher.  Past President, Steve Schneiderman, says the Sunrise Rotary Club had purchased the $10-thousand-dollar piece of equipment about 8 years ago. It was turned over Sunrise Rotary Club when the two clubs merged.  Since that time, the club has loaned the simulator out to CERT once a month for training purposes. Around three-thousand (3000) people have benefitted from the training. Schneiderman says there have even been success stories from people trained on the simulator to having success in real life situations.  The simulator uses real fire and an extinguisher filled with water and air that, if used with the correct technique on the proper area of the fire, will put out the blaze.
