Coast Guard Hosts Food Drive

“Thunderwater 3000” is a fitness challenge food drive hosted by the crew of Coast Guard Station in Coos Bay. For every canned food item donated between now and November 20th, a Coastie will run, bike, or swim one mile. All donations will support the South Coast Food Share. Oregon Coast Community Action Executive Director, Mike Lehman believes the Coos Bay Coast Guard Station’s goal of 3000 cans will be easily attainable and further issued a challenge “I will donate 5 cans of food for every Coastie that beats my time by 6 minutes or more at the 34th Annual Prefontaine Memorial Run.”

Donation sites include the Charleston Fire Station, Coast Guard Exchange, Englund Marine – Charleston, First Community Credit Union – Lakeside and North Bend, Pony Village Cinema, Safeway – North Bend, Station Coos Bay, Tower Ford, and Y Marina.

South Coast Food Share is a program of Oregon Coast Community Action, a non-profit network of programs that help feed, house, warm and educate the communities of the South Coast, and help families thrive.
