Coffee with a Cop Event A Huge Success in Coos Bay

Coos Bay Police Department hosted their first-ever Coffee with a Cop event at Flapper’s Coffee House in Downtown Coos Bay earlier today and officials are calling it a great success. Chief McCullough, who has been with the Coos Bay Police Department for over 24 years said the event is important because it gives citizens a chance to meet the officers, communicate with them about issues and brainstorm. A couple of the main issues of concern were homelessness and the school shooting incidents that have happened in other parts of the country. McCullough says people were very concerned with how the department would deal with situations.  While he couldn’t speak to the incident in Florida, he says the department trains much differently today than they did just a few short years ago. That includes engaging the suspect to get the focus off students and faculty and removing these unarmed citizens from the situation.  The city has three districts including Eastside, downtown and Empire.  Because of its size, the department plans to host these events quarterly in different parts of the community.
