Construction In Coos Bay–Street Closures

The City of Coos Bay has authorized Benny Hempstead Excavating, Incorporated, to perform a sewer line replacement project along South 10th Street, scheduled to start May 13th, weather permitting. This line is badly damaged due to its age and is in need of replacement to help ensure the sewer line is in good working condition for years to come.

The construction will begin approximately 50 feet south of Lockhart Avenue and extend north approximately 750 feet and then easterly approximately 200 feet. This work will require street closures and detours. During the day, the road shall remain closed to through traffic between Lockhart Avenue and Johnson Avenue. However, vehicles will be allowed to enter and exit their property. At night and on the weekends, the road will be open to through traffic. Construction is scheduled to begin May 13th and it is anticipated to last for approximately 4 weeks, weather permitting.

This project is part of the many projects associated with the city’s aggressive inflow and infiltration reduction and sewer rehabilitation program. The project is being funded by a loan and grant obtained from Oregon Infrastructure Finance Authority. Any questions can be directed to the Public Works and Development Department at 541-269-8918.
