Coos Bay Council Discusses a Transportation UserFee Tonight

Coos Bay City Councilors will discuss adding a Transportation User Fee to fund fixing streets that are falling into disrepair when they meet tonight in a work session.  The council has toyed with the idea of adding a fee ranging from $3 dollars to up to $10 dollars to generate funds earmarked for streets.  The city has prepared a five-year takedown list that is funded mostly by capital funds from restricted accounts, there is still an additional $1.5 million dollars needed. The council will discuss options for the Transportation User Fee or a flat rate. If a Fee is approved at a future council meeting, it would likely be assessed monthly on the water/wastewater bill.  The council will also discuss having the waterboard collect the fee which could cost an estimated $1300 per month. tonight’s meeting will be held at the Coos Bay Fire Station Conference Room.
