Coos Bay Police Looking For Suspect In Shooting

On Tuesday, November 20th, at about 5pm, the Coos Bay Police Department responded to a 911 call from a person on the 1000 block of South 4th Street who reported a man in a vehicle near his residence with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police responded and identified the victim as 33-year-old Vernon Lee Johnson, of Reedsport. Coos Bay Police officers secured the area so medical personnel could provide emergency medical care and then transport the man to Bay Area Hospital.

Through information developed, it was learned that the incident occurred inside the victim’s vehicle and that the suspect fled the area on foot. A K-9 search of the area was conducted but did not locate the suspect. The associated vehicle and surrounding area were processed for evidence and interviews with the victim and witnesses were conducted.

The investigation is continuing at this time. The suspect is described as a skinny caucasian male adult in his early 20’s, approximately 5’10”-6’ tall with short dark hair and a goatee. At the time of the shooting he was reportedly wearing a white t-shirt, tan shorts, and an orange jacket.
