Coos Bay woman drowns in Coquille River

A Coos Bay woman has drowned in the Coquille River. At about 1:00 PM today, the Coos County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a person trapped in the water about 2 miles north of the Gaylord Bridge on the South Fork of the Coquille River. When First Responders arrived on the scene they found a woman caught under water between a tree and her pontoon boat. When rescue crews pulled her from the water she was not breathing and was life flighted to Bay Area Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as 25 year-old Kristle Volin of Coos Bay. Volin was employed by the Coquille Watershed.
