Coos Bay Woman Drowns Near Charleston Marina

A Coos Bay woman has drowned after swimming throughout the day. Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call on June 23rd, regarding the discovery of a body floating in the bay near the Charleston Marina in Coos Bay. The female victim was removed from the water by a good samaritan before the arrival of law enforcement. Deputies determined that 35-year-old Rebecca N. Carroll had been swimming alone during the day and had been in the water for several hours.

The Sheriff’s office takes this opportunity to urge swimmers to swim in groups and in areas that they are familiar with. Do not consume alcohol when swimming. It is also recommended to have a throwable floatation device available in areas with strong currents and tides.
