Coos Bay Woman In Custody After Motel Stand Off

A Coos Bay woman is in custody this morning after being arrested on multiple charges over the weekend after breaking into a motel room. Coos Bay police received a report that 50-year-old Sylvia Lynn Goodwin had broken into a room at the Terrace Motel at 1109 South 1st Street on November 3rd, and was reportedly breaking things and causing damage. Goodwin was also allegedly armed with multiple weapons. Police were also informed that Goodwin was refusing to leave the premises and had barricaded herself in an upstairs room. Multiple police agencies responded, surrounding the motel. All motel guests were evacuated. After negotiations, Goodwin still refused to come out, reportedly throwing loaded shotgun shells from the second story window to booster her claim to be armed. Eventually, a taser gun was deployed and Goodwin was taken into custody and to Bay Area Hospital for treatment of lacerations sustained when she broke out windows. Goodwin is being charged with with First Degree Burglary and Criminal Mischief and Second Degree Theft.
