Coquille Man Sentenced to Mandatory 25 years for Murder

36-year-old Manuel Delgado Junior was sentenced this morning by Judge Martin Stone in Coos County Circuit Court for killing one man and assaulting another. Delgado was convicted of the death of 45-year-old Gregory Durham in June 2018. Durham had bled to death on his bathroom floor from two table knife wounds to his lower head and neck. Delgado Junior was found asleep in a bedroom next to the bathroom. The case was opened after 51-year-old Michael Lucas of Coquille was brought to the hospital the same day after suffering facial bone fractures from severe blunt force trauma. Because both the Murder and first degree Assault are Measure 11 crimes. Delgado Junior will serve every day of the 32-and-a-half years without the possibility of a reduced sentence.  He was also ordered to reimburse the $5000 funeral expenses paid by state crime victims assistance funds. He will be transferred to the Department of Corrections at a future date.
