Eastside School Ground Breaking

The Coos Bay School District broke ground today on a 52-thousand square foot Eastside Elementary School that will accommodate 450 students.  Today’s ground-breaking was a significant step in the process for the Coos Bay School District and the $60-million dollar bond that citizens approved in 2017. Demolition of the former school on the property was completed last year.  The new school will have a gymnasium, covered play area, media center and cafeteria. Oregon Department of Transportation Officials were in town earlier this week to do a promotional video on the Safe Routes to School program.  According to ODOT’s Gary Leaming, the Coos Bay and Coos Bay School grant is being used because of its magnitude and impact on the local area. The City received a $2 million dollar grant to build sidewalks and improve student access along Coos River Highway.
