Emergency Boil Notice for Coquille

An Emergency Boil Notice has been issued by the City of Coquille following routine water sampling that showed increased levels of turbidity. Sampling showed increased levels of particulates and sediment in the water that could contain disease-causing organisms. Those can include bacteria, viruses and parasites that can cause nausea, intestinal problems and headaches. Coquille residents on city water are being asked to boil water for one minute before consuming or using it to wash dishes or for food preparation. They can also use bottled water.  City officials believe recent heavy rains caused runoff of mud and clay into the Rink Creek Reservoir. They are adding chemicals to reduce the problem and adjusting filtration. The issue is expected to be resolved by May.
