Erosion Closes South Jetty Access Road in Florence

Erosion creating dangerous road condition has forced the US Forest Service to close a port of the South Jetty Road near Florence.  The closure begins at milepost 4.5 from Highway 101, just beyond parking area #5. Vehicles will not be able to access South Jetty parking areas #6 and 7 or the crab dock until repairs are complete. Visitors may continue to access the crab dock and beach by foot but are encouraged to use caution as they may encounter heavy equipment in the area. Erosion from the Siuslaw River has created an unstable road surface and hazardous conditions for vehicles. Forest Service engineers are securing the necessary permits to repair the road, which is expected to reopen to vehicles in 5 to 8 weeks.
