Father And Son Arrested At China Flats

Two men from Powers were booked at the Coos County jail on assault and other charges. On September 5th, Coos County Deputies and Powers police responded to China Flats, a camping area south of Powers, to a report that a female victim had suffered a broken nose and lacerations to her face as a result of allegedly being assaulted. Police learned that the victim had been with a party of four, camping in the area and been approached by the camp host, due to a loud noise complaint. After continuing to be loud, it was reported the camp host returned with others and assaulted the victim. Reportedly, the victim had stepped in between the host and other members of her party as they were arguing and was assaulted and strangled as a result. Arrested were the camp host, 62-year-old Danny L. Thomas for Fourth Degree Assault and Strangulation. His son, 36-year-old Paul E. Thomas was also arrested and charged with Harassment. The female victim was taken to Coquille Valley Hospital and treated for facial and leg injuries.
