Fire At Ocean Blvd. Metal Building

The Coos Bay Fire Department was dispatched to a building fire at 1666 Ocean Blvd on Saturday morning. Firefighters found smoke coming from a 30’ x 90’ metal building. They made entry to the structure and extinguished the fire. The building had a large amount of flammable compressed gases and liquids, which caused concern, but neither of the products caused additional damages.

The occupant of the building was Rodger Karr of Coos Bay, operating as Karr’s Cars, an automotive restoration business. The structure is owned by Sherry Van Elsberg of North Bend. Fire officials could not determine the cause of the fire but it is believed to be accidental in nature. The damage is listed at $50,000.00 and contents at $25,000. 22 firefighters responded with three engines and support vehicles, remaining on the alarm for over two hours. There were no injuries reported.
