Folk Dance Festival In Coos Bay

The South Coast Folk Society is bringing a nationally acclaimed folk danceteacher to Coos Bay. OnSaturday August 10, the group will hold a Folk Dance Festival,featuring renowned danceteacher Loui Tucker of San Jose, CA. Tucker is accomplished as a teacher of bot International and Israeli dances. She has been teaching for more than 30 years atworkshops, folk dance festivals, camps, and weekly classes. In addition to teaching, Ms. Tucker is the author of
numerous articles for folk dance publications (Let’s Dance magazine
and The Grapevine) as well as a book chronicling her experience surviving and thriving with breast cancer (Dancing with Cancer).
The South Coast Folk Dance Festival includes a morning workshop with
dances from various countries and an afternoon workshop focusing on Israeli folk dances, both conducted by Tucker. In the evening, Eugene-based Balkan band Kef will provide live music for more dancing. A potluck lunch is planned at noon, followed by Balkan singing. Admission to workshops is $15 each; the evening dance party admission is $15. Package (all 3 activities) $40 All activities will take place at the Harding Learning Center gymnasium at 755 S. 7th Street in Coos Bay. The doors open at 9:00 am.
