Free Oceanography Seminar In Charleston

The Shoreline Education for Awareness is hosting a seminar on Oceanography on Saturday, February 18th from 9am to 12 Noon at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology Boathouse auditorium, at Boat Basin Road in Charleston. Dr. Allen Shanks, Professor of Marine Biology at OIMB, will give a presentation on ocean dynamics and how oceans influence the environment and related habitats.

Dr. Shanks says, “Biological Oceanography deals with the interplay between ocean movement and how that movement affects the biology of marine life. Much of my work seems to be at the interface between physical and biology oceanography. Throughout my career, I have tried to pay attention to my observations and to actively follow these leads. When training students, one of my goals is to persuade them to follow their curiosity as this leads to novel and creative discoveries”.

The seminar is free to SEA members. A $5.00 donation is recommended for non-members. To reach the auditorium, park at the end of Boat Basin Road and walk past the Coast Guard housing area to the Auditorium. For information about SEA go to www.sea-edu.org or call 541-260-7770.
