Free Showing Of Film San Andreas At Egyptian Theatre

The geology lecture series at Southwestern teams up with the Egyptian Theatre to present a free showing of San Andreas starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It’s part of the Science on Screen series at 2pm on Sunday, January 29th. Before the film, Dr. Ron Metzger (Professor of Geology at Southwestern) will make a presentation on “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: The Science of the Movie San Andreas and Cascadia”. The benefit of using the film is that aspects are applicable to the Cascadia Subduction Zone which will affect the geographic region where the film is being shown. Hosting the movie San Andreas at the Egyptian Theatre on January 29th will allow SWOCC to dovetail with the geology lecture series talk.

The Southwestern Geology Department has been hosting a lecture series for over a decade bringing in nationally recognized speakers on geology related topics. It has become tradition to host an earthquake or seismic talk around the anniversary of the last Cascadia earthquake and tsunami on January 26th. The series will be hosting Dr. John Vidale for the 12th Annual Cascadia Anniversary Lecture on Friday, January 27th at 7pm on Southwestern’s Coos campus. For more details, call 541-888-7216.
