Free Smoke Detectors For Eligible Residents

Coos Bay Fire & Rescue has received a grant from Bay Area Hospital that allowed them to begin a smoke detector program. Residents who live in the city of Coos Bay will be provided with a smoke detector if they meet the following criteria:

1) You must live in the city of Coos Bay and own, or are buying your home

2) Your income must be below $65,000 per year

3) You must have children under the age of 12 living in the home

4) Or if you are senior over the age of 65 who owns, or is buying a home in the city of Coos Bay

If you meet the criteria and need a smoke detector, come to Coos Bay Fire Station Number 1 at 450 Elrod Avenue and fill out a form to confirm your eligibility. This program will remain active while supplies last.

The Coos Bay Fire Department would like to remind everyone to make sure that they have at least one working smoke detector and to know and practice how to exit your home in case of an emergency. Also, identify a meeting place so you know that all of your family is safe. If you need additional information about this program, call Dan Crutchfield or Fire Chief Stan Gibson at 269-1191.
