High Surf Warning

The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a high surf warning…which is in effect until 10 PM PST Monday.

* Waves and surf…large wind waves will build through Monday… with breakers peaking at 22 to 28 feet. The highest surf is expected along south facing ports and beaches… and will result in hazardous conditions and dangerous rip currents.

Initially…today into tonight…areas north of Gold Beach will be impacted…then all areas will be impacted by high surf on Monday.

* Timing…waves will increase through Monday… peaking Monday morning through Monday evening.

* Impacts…wave run-up on beaches will increase through Monday and remain high through Monday evening. The risk of dangerous rip currents will increase as the waves retreat from the shore.

People should use extra caution near the beaches and stay off jetties. Conditions will be especially dangerous during high tides…which are around 4 am PST and 4 PM PST.

 Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A high surf warning indicates that dangerous…battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions…and deadly rip currents.
