Hogs Eat Riverton Man

The Coos County Sheriff’s office is investigating the death of a 70 year Riverton man. Terry Vance Garner was discovered dead at his residence on September 26th. Garner was seen around 7:30 am when he went to feed his animals. Included in the animals were several very large hogs weighing 700 pounds or more. After Garner did not return for several hours a family member went to look for him and arrived at the hog pen where he found the dentures of Garner on the ground. Further searching revealed that Garner’s body was in several places with the majority of the body having been eaten by the hogs. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is investigating how Garner ended up in the hog pen. Several scenarios are being investigated not ruling out that he had some sort of health issue which put him in a position where the hogs could consume him. According to the Coos County District Attorney due to the unusual circumstances Sheriff’s are investigating to determine if foul play may have resulted in the death of Garner. Garner’s remains were examined for a cause of death. The examination did not reveal the cause of death. The remains will be examined by a forensic anthropologist at the University of Oregon.
