Independent Investigation Exonerates Coos Bay Police Officers

An independent investigator contracted by the Lane Council of Governments says allegations against Coos Bay Police were unfounded. The report was given last night at the City Council Meeting. The city contracted with LCOG to look into allegations that an officer with the department intentionally shoved a pregnant woman during a scuffle that followed a protest August 8th. The confrontation was between protesters and counter-protesters who were in a scuffle across from the Coos Bay Boardwalk. The investigator reported he had interviewed the alleged victim who indicated the action may have been accidental.

The investigator says second allegation of officers flashing white supremacist hand signs was deemed to be unfounded based on the lack of evidence provided. Mike Hudgins said he received 29 emails overall. He indicated that he had made contact with most, however several did not respond. In the end, Hudgins said he interviewed 6 police officers and 6 people who were alleged victims or say they witnessed alleged activities.
