Lakeside Boathouse Explosion Injures Two


A Coos County Sheriff’s Deputy is credited with helping to save the lives of two people after a personal watercraft exploded inside a boathouse on Tenmile Lakes. The accident was reported shortly after 3:00 pm Saturday on Devore Arm located on South Tenmile Lake. The deputy was conducting a routine boat patrol in the area when the call came in and was first to arrive on scene. The deputy pulled one victim was pulled out of the water. The deputy then reportedly performed potentially life-saving first-aid to both victims until the Lakeside Fire Department arrived and provided advanced care. The victims were moved by boat to awaiting ambulances. The female victim suffered multiple lacerations and broken bones. The second victim, a male, was transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital for a compound fracture to the lower leg. He was later transported to River Bend Hospital. The cause remains under investigation.
