Library Looking For Really GOOD Adult Spellers

The Coos Bay Library Foundation is looking for some good spellers! Not just good spellers—but really good spellers.
Registration is open for the Foundation’s Adult Spelling Bee, to be held April 20th at the Mill Casino. Not only will the winners claim bragging rights, but one of the lucky teams will win a grand prize, and all teams will take away event T-shirts and special awards.

The Coos Bay Library Foundation is sponsoring the bee to raise money for a renovation of the Young Adult section of the library. The goal is to reconfigure a space within the library to give teens more room and to add shelving for additional young adult materials. Registration is $75 per team of up to three people and includes appetizers provided by the Mill and an event T-shirt for each contestant. Guests may attend to support a team for $25, includes appetizers. The Mill will provide a no-host bar.

The library foundation is also seeking business and professional sponsorships for a minimum of $125 and up to $500 according to Jon Littlefield, Foundation President. Sponsors will have their name and logo on the T-shirt and receive other recognition. Contestants must be at least 18 years of age. Anyone may put together a team, says Littlefield. “We want to see many of the good spellers of Coos County and we definitely want to foster friendly competition between various businesses and civic organizations,” he adds.

The Coos Bay Public Library Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the library and its service to the community.
Registration information is available online on the Foundation’s page at and in the library. Registrations are due by Monday, April 10th. For information, call Library Director Sami Pierson at 541-269-1101.
