Motorcyclist Dies In Collision On West Beaver Hill Road

A Coos Bay resident has died in a traffic accident. Coos County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by Bandon Fire And Rescue in responding to a report of a vehicle crash involving a truck and a motorcycle yesterday afternoon at approximately 3pm. Upon arrival to West Beaver Hill Road between Charleston and Bandon, first responders found 64-year-old Derrill Wadsworth Dickerson dead at the scene. The Coos County Crash Team was activated to assist in the investigation. Officials determined that Dickerson was operating his motorcycle, traveling with a companion towards Charleston, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road at milepost 5.6 and collided head-on with a truck towing a trailer, driven by 45-year-old Manuel Calvillo of Roseburg. No one else was injured in the accident and at this point police do not believe that alcohol was a contributing factor. Dickerson was a resident of Emery, South Dakota who currently resided in Coos Bay. This investigation is on-going.
