Myrtle Point Wastewater Treatment Plant Received Wastewater With High Amounts Of Suspended Solids

The City of Myrtle Point Wastewater Treatment Plant has received wastewater containing high amounts of dissolved and/or suspended solids. Because of this, the ultraviolet disinfection system is not able to achieve proper inactivation of E-coli bacteria in the effluent water. Officials ask that the public avoid the South Fork Coquille River at river mile 34 due to the possibility of increased bacteria in the water.
The Oregon Emergency Management System and Oregon Department of Environmental Quality were notified and signs are posted. The elevated bacteria levels will remain until proper function of the UV disinfection system can be restored. For more details, call Myrtle Point City Hall at 541-572-2626.
